pre-elections reflections
Sunday, September 30 @ 8:59 PM

perhaps all along i was too selfish, wanting the best of both worlds without putting myself in the shoes of others and seeing things their way; perhaps all along i was too stubborn and self-centered i only saw the bad and failed to appreciate the good. it wld be convenient to blame it on human nature but i do think that there's some truth to it. more often than not, we tend to over-complicate matters when things aint that bad actually cos really, things aint that bad.
this is what you get when you think about the same issues repeatedly over the course of a few weeks. you realize that certain views and beliefs you've held on stubbornly in the past are actually unfounded and only blinded you from seeing other perspectives. so let's not be too quick to judge next time (even though it's much easier said than done!) and remain optimistic in trying situations :)

decided
@ 12:13 AM

so indeed, i'm running for crew. 27 candidates for 15 positions, quite competitive i wld say. so let's just leave it up to fate. if i don't get in, so be it. at least i know i've tried and i can move on to pursue other interests without regrets. if i do get in, hmm i'll just take on the challenge and do my best :)

so, come what may.

ms clarity
Saturday, September 29 @ 12:03 AM

mrtea, coffeebean, botakjones, b&j and ms clarity. i find myself becoming more and more chillaxed as the midterms draw near (not that i have many to speak of in the first place since i'm only a 3.5 modtaker :) i'm not complaining of course; in fact i'm enjoying these laid-back times with friends, simply eating and talk about anything under the sun. just dont remind me about the pounds i'll be gaining.

so for today, i had kops bibimbap (MM!) followed by b&j icecream and finally concluded with ms clarity cookies&cream milkshake and bread&butter pudding. sinful yet awesome :)

this was my first visit to ms clarity! quite a nice place i would say, brought back memories of the good old secondary school days. however, it's a lil too small and noisy; i'd prefer a quiet and relaxed setting where people can actually talk or simply immerse in the silence and relax. but i figured the cafe wld be good for group gatherings where everyone just wanna have fun.

juls, still smiling without her teeth even though her braces are removed! ahwells.

CHEERS :)

i had cookies&cream milkshake which was not that bad but far from comparison with billybomber's of course! i love the bread&butter pudding tho! juls had cordon bleau which i was too full to try! ms clarity, anyone?

next on the list - cheesecake cafe at frankel estate! peanutbutter cheesecake MM!

crew reflections
Wednesday, September 26 @ 10:32 PM

after much deliberation (i know, yet again), i've made up my mind to not run for crew. i've been giving it some serious thought this week; the main motivating reason for me to run initially was to further my interest in the corpcomms arena which i later figured could be done in other ways. considering that there're so many people running who are equally capable in terms of administrative skills and more so in their team specialization expertise, on top of the fact that they're all very passionate about the outdoors, i think many of them out there deserve more so to be in the crew than me. i joined smux to do something out of the ordinary and challenge myself in the outdoors in areas i've always wanted to try but never had the opportunity or courage to do so and to say the truth, i'm especially proud of my stong and ophir conquers which may not be anything significant to other people but are actually memorable and fulfilling experiences to me :) i guess not being in the crew gives me more flexibility in doing what i really enjoy at my own standards without having to meet certain expectations of people. also, crew, being a one-year committment, will indirectly force me to make certain trade-offs - to name a few, my closer social circle of friends outside of smux and attempts at trying new stuff - which i'm not sure are trade-offs i'll be totally convinced of. therefore, in view of all i've said, i shall not run.

swanky franky
Tuesday, September 25 @ 10:13 PM

photo kopped from ping's blog! (notice my new haircut and colour)

swankyfranky, taken from my hp cam which proved to be rather good this time :) nevertheless, for a more satisfying photo, refer to ping's blog!

i'm feeling so damn bloated now - the aftereffect of having botakjones for dinner! it was YUMS! i'd been craving for botakjones sausage since that first time i ate there so ping and i decided to drop by the amk outlet since we were in the vicinity. i had swanky franky - the ultimate combination of chicken sausage wrapped in bacon and topped with melted cheese (OMG!) while ping blissfully stuck to her cajun chicken. ping loves the fries there and guess what! they actually allow you to request for more fries without additional cost! you can even topup your fries after you've finished for free (which was what we gluttonly did :\) i love the generous serving of coleslaw to balance off the sinful carnivorous nature of the meal lol. MM!

"The thing is, it’s hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely, because almost everyone has that smallest bit of faith and hope that one day they would open their eyes and it would all come true." - grey's anatomy

chanced upon this quote on a friend's facebook. how true is that?

nitebike 2007 - reflections
@ 11:02 AM

after months of preparation, nitebike 2007 - ta ka qia has finally come to an end. i feel an urgent need to blog now while the thoughts are still fresh in my mind before i become lost for words so this post is gonna be unusually lengthy and reflective.

contrary to the sense of fulfilment i thought i would experience upon seeing the materialization of the months of planning we've gone through (the long thursday night meetings and the weekend car/bike recces), i can't exactly describe how i'm feeling right now. yes i do feel proud that the project has finally taken off but at the same time, i actually feel a little sad that it's all over. perhaps it's precisely because nitebike was something all of us had been spending so much time and effort on it has become a part of us and now that it has concluded and we dont have to stress over it anymore, it simply feels weird.

i'm proud to say that everything went well during the execution. from the pre-event prep where everyone gathered early in the day to help set up the area to registering the participants and finally to the actual event where the participants are flagged off onto the roads, everyone contributed in one way or another, making the event a huge success. even though there were minor problems surfacing here and there (which are essentially inevitable), the people in charge handled it calmly and efficiently. the only thing that i could fault was the weather which went against us during the later half of the journey but for which i am equally grateful too as the disruption to the event was minimal. i do hope the participants enjoyed the event as much as i did even though i was only sitting in the roving vehicle most of time, watching and snapping photographs as the event played out.

i've learnt a lot from this entire nitebike experience. for a group of over 10 different individuals to come together and work on a big project is no mean feat. even though most of us may not end up being closer than we started (which is quite a pity), i'm grateful for the opportunity to work with each and every one of them. each one has his or her own working style; while there're people who won my admiration for the responsibility and efficiency in their roles, there're also others who dint quite perform up to expectations i felt. within corp comms, even though sponsorship may be a lot of hard work and cruel rejections, i must say that i enjoyed this challenge while at the same time, met new people and attempted to establish something more than just a corporate venture. likewise, marketing encourages creative ideas which i'm more than happy to make a career out of. joining this committee reaffirms what i'm passionate about and i'm more certain about what i wanna do in future.

well done guys!

HAPPY
Monday, September 10 @ 1:37 AM

happy birthday to FIONNE and HUIMIN who turned 21 and 20 on sat and sun respectively!
i wanted to upload the photos but somehow there seems to be some error with my blogger which disabled the entire row of functions. ohwells!

anyway i got in for oracle'07! that completes my entire work schedule for this sem!
. 3.5 modules (finance, marketing, international econs, finishing touch)
. urbanjunkie
. tuition
. oracle'07

i'm glad i'm doing stuff which i enjoy! school's working out good so far, perhaps cos projects havent yet set in but i'm remaining optimistic :) 3.5 modules may be little but i guess i need a break from the overdose of stress-related grumpiness which i've suffered the whole of last sem. work's been great so far too; the laid-back atmosphere and the different types of people one can meet made it really enjoyable! geog tuition, a subject which i'm familiar and passionate abt and a tutee i hope i can connect with and help! it's a challenge! last but not least, oracle - something i've always wanted to experience!

there's a bigger world out there than you know!

it's amazing how little things can make one happy :)

happy birthday scot!
Friday, September 7 @ 3:23 AM

first, HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY SCOT, if you happen to be reading this! this was the photo we took at your 21st last year shortly after sports camp! we go wayyy back!

i had this for dinner during work today - chicken cutlet from far east tasty treats. it's simply UPS! i was pleasantly surprised to see an egg (which was cooked to the right form btw!), knowing how big a fan i am of eggs! an egg, fries, baked beans and a big slab of chicken cutlet for only $4! top it up with a cup of ice-cold homemade barley and that made a really satisfying dinner for me today lol! and you dont hear me complaining about eating alone anymore!

peel fresh bus
Thursday, September 6 @ 12:10 AM

this was taken on bus no5. the entire bus has these couches and cushion seats which i thot was damn cool! i was quite surprised sbs actually allowed such form of marketing for peelfresh cos i thought it wldnt have complied with the transport rules. good job!

disappointment
Saturday, September 1 @ 11:30 PM

today wasn't a good day. i could say that i was actually pretty frustrated and disappointed at how things turned out and how some people behaved in the various circumstances that there were times i actually wanted to explode. so much for the effort, time (and opportunity cost!) and stress involved when at the end of it, it amounted to nothing but disappointment.
